Welcome to First Grade!
My name is Mary Dyer, and I am thrilled to be a part of our First Grade team at Cool Spring. My master’s degree is in Special Education from James Madison University; my undergraduate degree in is early education. My teaching experience includes kindergarten through third grade, in addition to fourth and fifth grade resource students. After grad school, I was offered a position with the Department of Defense Dependent Schools, and taught in Germany for six years. I loved teaching in a foreign country; the opportunity to work among so many cultures was an experience that I treasure.
I strive to create a warm, calm, and orderly environment in which to challenge your first grader. I love reading all kinds of literature, therefore, I want your child to develop a love for reading and enjoy learning as much as I do. We will work as a team to help your child go beyond their potential to be successful and confident. Most of all, I want your child to be happy and enjoy coming to school each day.
My husband and I have two really great children. My daughter, Lauren, was recently married this past June; she and her husband reside in Charlottesville. Lauren received her Master's degree in higher education from UVa this past May, and is a program coordinator for the nursing school. My son, Andrew, is a recent VT graduate, and is a CPA at a Fortune 500 company in Herndon. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, so I am I thrilled for Loudoun's beautiful fall weather, football games and long runs on the bike trail.
I look forward to teaching your child this year! First grade is a big transition year; so many new discoveries and always lots of excitement. Please feel free to schedule a conference if you have any questions regarding our program. My email is email@example.com
