Career Exploration: Students in all grades explore their own interest, strength, values & the relationship to the world of work through career exploration programs such as www.vaview.vt.edu. Students are able to integrate their interest and abilities to develop a list of compatible careers. This website may be accessed at home by logging on to www.vaview.vt.edu. Students in the 6th grade learn about the 16 career clusters. Students in 7th grade begin working on their 5 yer plan and learning high school terminology such as credits, verified credits and diploma types. This work continues through eighth grade as students work with their counselor to determine the courses they will take in the ninth grade.
Safe School Ambassadors: Students specially trained in conflict resolution meet with other SSA members and one adult (Family Group Leader) bi-weekly to discuss peer incidents that have occurred over the two week period. They explain what happened and how they helped with the situation. They then log all of the infractions and state what action they used to help the situation for the better.
Students Assistance Referrals: LCPS has contracted with LCMental Health to have a counselor available to meet with students as needed. Parents and counselors may refer students to this program who are experiencing personal or social difficulties.
Substance Abuse Referrals: This program emphasizes the understanding and prevention of alcohol and drug abuse. Students with potential alcohol or drug abuse may be referred for educational serive.
Counselors coordinate the application proces o Academy of Science , Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, and the CAMPUS Program.
