The Potomac Falls Counseling Department sponsors or co-sponsors many special programs to assist in meeting the needs of all students.  In addition to what is listed below, we also lead student support groups to assist students experiencing any academic or personal/social concerns. Please contact the Counseling Office if you or your student has any concerns that you feel a support group or special program could address.
Listed below are the special programs and the sponsors or co-sponsors for the 2013-2014 school year:
Advisory Lesson Planning
All grades will receive lesson plans in the 2-3 monthly Advisory sessions during FLEX that are designed by all counselors to meet the needs of students according to their grade level.  Counselors and Administrators assist in the design and delivery of the Advisory lesson plans.
Mr. Bader is the counselor who assists with program planning for our minority college achievement program.  This program meets as a class for 9th grade CAMPUS students and during Advisory for all 10th-12th grade students.  The teacher sponsors for the program are Mrs. Howe-Freeman and Mrs. Veney,.
College and Career Center
Mrs. Thomas is our Career Center Assistant.  She assists with all researches pertaining to colleges, careers and scholarships.  Please visit the Career Center Website for more information.
Governor's School Programs (Summer Residential Programs in the Commonwealth)
Mrs. Burgess  organizes the Governor's School application process in December of each school year.  Please check our newsletter and/or Mrs. Burgess's staff page for more information, or click on this link for program updates:  Summer Residential Governor's School Programs
Our office works with other Loudoun County representatives to support selected female students at PFHS make informed decisions, investigate post-secondary training, foster career skills and provide support to the community.  IRIS meets once a week.
Naviance Family Connections
Mrs. Thomas and our counselors assist with updating our staff about our interactive college planning tool for counselors, students and parents called Naviance Family Connections.
Mrs. Paolozzi along with one of our teachers, Mr. Daniel co-facilitates our PEER program which focuses on training students to assist other students with adjustment concerns such as transitioning to high school (either as a new student to our school or rising freshman).  PEER students also assist with anti-bullying initiatives to further ensure a safe school environment.
Safe School Ambassadors
(Facilitator to be determined) facilitates leadership for our student-bullying prevention program which trains and enables over 60 students to perform actions which help prevent or minimize bullying and mistreatment within their peer group. Along with several other teachers, students in SSA meet twice a month for mentoring, data entry (showing how successful their efforts were in preventing mistreatment) and additional training.
Senior Planning Night
Each fall the counseling department shares detailed information on post high school options with a specific focus on the college application process for college bound seniors and their parents.
