WELCOME TO HILLSIDE AND THE PTO!

Whether you are new to Hillside or returning to our wonderful school, we are so excited to meet you and personally welcome you to Hillside and the PTO!  The PTO has planned for an amazing school year. Please be sure join the PTO for the 2016-2017 school year right away so that we can continue to support our great school, teachers, staff and students!  Paper membership forms are available at school, or you can join electronically here: http://bit.ly/HillsidePTO_NewFamily

When you become a PTO member, you will be added to our list to receive the “Week at a Glance” each Sunday evening/Monday morning, which summarizes what’s going on at the school each week.  You are also supporting the many programs and services we fund and orchestrate each year through a wonderful network of other parent volunteers to bring assemblies to the school, fund technology, provide teachers with stipends to buy much-needed classroom supplies, buy books to build classroom libraries and support individualized reading programs, provide teacher appreciation events, support schoolwide student character and social skills curriculum, fund classroom and health clinic supplies, offer fun family events, and so much more.

Please BE INVOLVED as a member of the PTO! Without parent support and our volunteers, we simply cannot function. Our work makes a huge difference in the quality of your child’s experience at school and our school counts on the PTO’s support. We have opportunities for working and non-working parents, and for people with a little or a lot of time to spare.  Our volunteers are the lifeblood of the PTO, so we welcome and deeply appreciate anything you are able to do to help!  Plus, PTO volunteers are awesome people to get to know.

We know what it is like to be working parents who also want to be connected to your child’s school and life. It’s not easy, but there’s nothing more important to us than family, community and education.  Our goals as co-presidents of Hillside’s PTO are to:

  • Create a warm, welcoming, inclusive and encouraging environment where all parents – non-working AND working, moms AND dads – feel connected, informed, empowered and involved in the lives of their children at school.
  • Provide financial and other resources to teachers so they may deliver the highest quality education to all of our children, with equal attention to students from diverse backgrounds, and with different needs and special abilities.
  •  Help to ensure that Mr. Mills can attract and retain the very best educators and staff by regularly showing our appreciation, being responsive to staff needs, promoting a positive work environment, and advocating for teachers beyond the walls of the school with the School Board and LCPS Administration.
  •  Build a strong organizational infrastructure to make parent volunteerism easier, more accessible and more rewarding for those whose circumstances allow them to assist.
Elementary school is an important developmental period for children.  A high quality education to promote academic achievement is just as important as a child’s social/emotional development and feelings of self-worth for school-aged children. You’ll see these values and beliefs reflected in our work as PTO Co-Presidents. We look forward to working with you this year!

Sincerely,

 Be Involved
We still need volunteers for various roles this year and hope you will consider lending your time and expertise. All you need is a desire to share your skills, make a difference, work collaboratively toward shared goals, and the willingness to commit a few hours from your schedule. More information about PTO volunteer opportunities can be found here..  For questions in the meantime, please contact Carol at drcarolwn@gmail.com

Grocery Card Link-Up
If you did not get a chance to provide your Harris Teeter or Giant grocery card numbers to our Grocery Card Link-Up Chair, Ginger Rogers, please link your cards on-line or in the stores right away using our codes: Harris Teeter - Hillside ES TIE code is 5196; Giant code is 03607. We have two fewer grocery stores participating in the program this year, so we need as many parent cards linked as possible. Thanks for your help!

Hillside PTO Logo
Please join the Hillside PTO to ensure that we can continue to provide educational enrichment activities for our children and programs that strengthen our parent-teacher community.

The $20 annual family membership fee supplements the main source of PTO revenue that is generated by fundraising activities during the year.  The PTO budget is allocated to a wide variety of PTO-sponsored events and services that would not be possible otherwise, and that directly benefit ALL of our children, our families and the faculty.

Thank you for your support!  We are looking forward to a great year getting to know you and supporting Hillside.
