Woodgrove Jazz Band on Tour

Woodgrove High School’s Jazz Band, known as “The WJB” is taking its music on the road this month, visiting many of the elementary schools in Western Loudoun.

Bill Strickler, Woodgrove’s band director, wanted to show younger students what they can accomplish in middle and high school when they learn an instrument and become part of a band. The WJB tour highlights some of the instruments students can start to play once they enter sixth grade.

The WJB is composed of 20 students who are performing at the elementary schools at the beginning of their school day – roughly an hour before their classes at Woodgrove begin.

The WJB performs a variety of jazz and rock pieces. It recently visited Mountain View, Hillsboro, Waterford and Lovettsville elementary schools. Future visits include Round Hill and Kenneth W. Culbert elementary schools.
